Marie Alligné
Intimate Piano Compositions and French chansons

Marie Alligné is a Netherlands-based composer, pianist & vocalist who writes deeply personal and intimate piano pieces. Drawing on jazz, French, and classical influences, she creates a sound entirely her own; fragile yet powerful, crossing musical boundaries effortlessly.

About Marie's Compositions
As the daughter of a classical pianist & orchestra member, Marie grew up listening to her father endlessly rehearsing Debussy, Fauré, and Satie. Captivated by the music, she absorbed the sounds and atmosphere while quietly playing underneath the grand piano.
In her piano compositions, the musical landscapes of her childhood are never far away. The French impressionists are deeply embedded in the way she perceives and creates her piano music.
Alongside these instrumental pieces, Marie has a profound love for French chansons. She often composes and sings in French, paying homage to her Parisian grandmother whose stories brought a bygone era to life, while in other compositions her voice becomes an instrument in itself, exploring melody beyond words.
A composer at heart, Marie doesn’t think of herself as a pianist, but rather refers to herself as 'someone who plays a bit of piano'. Entirely self-taught, she discovered her own path on the piano through a great love for the instrument, years of patience, and trial and error. She often plays with her eyes closed. Her fingers know the way, her ears lead.

The Studio
Marie records her piano compositions in her Studio in The Hague, using her 1968 Steinway S.

Blending different musical worlds, Marie loves taking listeners on journeys through unexpected harmonies, shifting keys, yet always bringing them safely back home."
Marie's Compositions lend themselves beautifully to a dreamy atmosphere for Cinematographic work or films.

By singing in French, Marie pays homage to her Parisian grandmother, pictured here in the 1930s.
La Musique est le fondement de ma vie.
Elle est ma religion, mon Amour, mon espoir et mon réconfort.
Personne ne m’a appris la musique...
C’est la musique elle-même qui me l’a apprise.
